Yangcheon-gu Immediately Launches 'Free Shuttle Bus' Amid Seoul City Bus Strike

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 28th that, as the Seoul City Bus Labor Union began a general strike from 4 a.m. on the 28th, it will activate an "emergency transportation plan" to minimize inconvenience to residents using public transportation by immediately deploying free shuttle buses from 6 a.m.

Currently, there are five city bus companies operating 592 buses on 36 routes within the district. In preparation for the anticipated Seoul city bus strike, the district proactively formed an "Emergency Transportation Headquarters" consisting of 80 public officials, operating a control room to implement situation-specific measures by mobilizing personnel and transportation resources.

The emergency transportation vehicles, a total of 20 free shuttle buses, will operate from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. starting on the strike day, the 28th, until the strike ends. The dispatch interval will be 15 to 20 minutes during commuting hours and 30 minutes during other times.

The operating routes include four lines: ▲ Yangwon Elementary School ~ Hwagok Station ▲ Sinwol 3-dong Post Office ~ Kkachisan Station ▲ National Forensic Service ~ Mokdong Station ▲ Mokdong Woosung Apartment ~ Yangcheon-gu Office Station. These routes focus on transportation-vulnerable areas that do not overlap with village bus routes and areas around subway stations with high foot traffic. Additionally, an on-site support team of 24 members will be urgently deployed, assigning one public official per bus to guide boarding and alighting and provide route information on-site.

Furthermore, the district posted detailed information such as route paths and operating hours of the emergency transportation vehicles on the district office website as a popup zone and pre-attached notices at each bus stop to proactively inform the public.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, "Yangcheon-gu will mobilize all available transportation resources to minimize inconvenience to residents using public transportation in preparation for the bus general strike," adding, "We hope that a smooth agreement between labor and management will be reached as soon as possible."
