[2024 Asset Disclosure] Average Wealth of Presidential Office Senior Aides 3.4 Billion KRW... Kim Dongjo 21 Billion KRW Increase

The average assets of presidential office aides at the secretary level and above were approximately 3.41 billion KRW. Among them, the individual who reported the highest assets was Kim Dong-jo, the Secretary for National Policy Planning and a former analyst, whose reported assets increased by more than 21 billion KRW compared to last year.


According to the "2024 Public Officials' Regular Asset Changes" data published in the government gazette on the 28th by the Public Service Ethics Committee, Secretary Kim, who reported 11.89 billion KRW last year, declared 32.92 billion KRW this year, tripling his assets.


Most of his assets consist of unlisted stocks owned by himself (31.96 billion KRW), composed of 22,200 shares of Korea Steel (an increase of 14,800 shares) and 32,400 shares of Korea Holdings, both known as family companies. This is an increase of about 21.3 billion KRW from last year's reported 10.6 billion KRW (7,400 shares of Korea Steel and 32,400 shares of Korea Holdings).


Regarding the reason for the asset change, Secretary Kim stated, "The profits of Korea Steel in 2023 nearly doubled compared to the average of the past three years, and the 2020 performance, which was the worst in the last three years, was excluded from the valuation, resulting in an increase in the assessed value."


Secretary Kim's assets also include an apartment in Yongsan-gu under his name (900 million KRW), deposits (830 million KRW), and 4,717 shares of listed stock in Vieworks (120 million KRW). Debts were reported at 930 million KRW.

The second wealthiest presidential office aide at the secretary level and above is Kim Tae-hyo, the First Deputy Director of the National Security Office. Kim reported assets totaling 13.13 billion KRW.


His real estate holdings include one apartment in Seocho Acrovista, Seoul (1.69 billion KRW), one apartment in Honolulu, Hawaii, under his spouse's name (1.37 billion KRW), one commercial property each in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, and Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, and two commercial properties in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, totaling four properties with a combined value of 8.45 billion KRW.


Kim also reported deposits of 5.63 billion KRW and securities worth 240 million KRW.


Following them were Wang Yoon-jong, Third Deputy Director of the Security Office (7.9 billion KRW), Lee Gwan-seop, Chief Secretary (7.85 billion KRW), Kang In-seon, former Overseas Public Relations Secretary (currently Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs; 5.89 billion KRW), Jang Kyung-sang, Political Secretary 2 (5.25 billion KRW), and Lee Do-woon, Chief of Public Relations (4.43 billion KRW).


Deputy Director Wang's deposits increased from 3.9 billion KRW to 4.7 billion KRW, citing earned income and spouse inheritance as reasons for the change.


Additionally, he reported land worth 1.4 billion KRW in Gangnam Sinsa-dong and Yongin Cheoin-gu under his and his spouse's names.


Chief Secretary Lee reported land worth 2.1 billion KRW in Suseong-gu, Daegu (under his name) and Jung-gu (under his spouse's name), as well as an apartment in Hannam-dong, Yongsan, jointly owned by the couple, valued at 5.78 billion KRW.


Chief of Public Relations Lee Do-woon listed an apartment in Ichon-dong, Yongsan, jointly owned by the couple (1.74 billion KRW), an apartment in Ichon-dong jointly owned by his spouse and eldest daughter (1.52 billion KRW), and deposits of 1.14 billion KRW. Jeong Ho-seop, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs, reported a total of 1.91 billion KRW, Park Chun-seop, Senior Secretary for Economic Affairs, 1.36 billion KRW, and Jang Sang-yoon, Senior Secretary for Social Affairs, 1.28 billion KRW.


The individual with the least assets reported was Kim Seong-seop, Secretary for Small and Medium Venture Affairs, who declared -140 million KRW.
