Since last year, Gyeongsangnam-do has been promoting the Provincial Sports Festival as a comprehensive festival event that allows more residents to participate, rather than focusing solely on sports competitions, and is holding it in conjunction with cultural tourism festivals in the host region.
This year, various attractions will be offered by holding cultural heritage night events such as live musicals at Yeongnamnu Pavilion and along the Miryang River, Eungcheon boat play, water fireworks, and Eohwa rope fire play, along with the Wabom Festival, intangible cultural heritage performances, and farm festivals.
To ensure the safety of participating athletes and improve their performance, the province plans to closely inspect the renovation progress of seven main stadiums in Miryang City.
Lee Jeong-gon, Director of the Culture and Sports Bureau, said, “This Provincial Sports Festival held in Miryang is a festival of unity for residents combining sports, culture, arts, and tourism. We will prepare it as an event that creates maximum effect with minimal cost through linkage with existing local government cultural events, making it a unique Gyeongnam event differentiated from other provinces.”
