Average Chief Prosecutor Salary Over 2.4 Billion Won... Ministry of Justice and Supreme Prosecutors' Office Executives Average 1.4 Billion and 1.6 Billion Won Respectively

Byun Pil-geon, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Suwon High Prosecutors' Office, was found to have the largest amount of assets among the personnel in the Ministry of Justice and prosecution. The asset size is approximately 43.8 billion KRW.

According to the "2024 Regular Asset Changes of Public Officials" disclosed by the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee on the 28th, Prosecutor Byun reported assets worth about 43.882 billion KRW.


Prosecutor Byun's assets include an apartment in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu under his wife's name (9.3 billion KRW), a commercial building in Yongdap-dong, Seongdong-gu (about 258 million KRW), and a lodging facility pre-sale right in Seorak-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do (400 million KRW). Additionally, 19 pieces of artwork including prints and Western paintings worth about 1.537 billion KRW and land in Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do worth about 1.613 billion KRW were also reported under his wife's name.


The person who reported the second largest assets was Lee Jong-yeop, Chairman of the Korea Legal Aid Corporation, who declared about 8.431 billion KRW. Shim Woo-jung, Vice Minister of Justice, reported about 8.331 billion KRW, Gu Sang-yeop, Director of the Legal Affairs Office of the Ministry of Justice, reported about 8.236 billion KRW, and Noh Jeong-yeon, Chief Prosecutor of Daegu High Prosecutors' Office, reported about 8.217 billion KRW.


Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok was found to hold about 1.997 billion KRW, and Song Kyung-ho, Chief Prosecutor of Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, held about 2.125 billion KRW.


The prosecutor with the smallest reported assets was Park Jong-geun, Chief Prosecutor of Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office, with about 326 million KRW. Lee Seong-yoon, a Democratic Party candidate who ran in the Jeonju-eul district in this general election, reported about 1.315 billion KRW, and Cha Gyu-geun, former Director of the Immigration and Foreign Policy Headquarters of the Ministry of Justice and a proportional representative candidate of the Innovation Party, reported about 1.186 billion KRW.


The average assets of high-ranking prosecutors at the level of Chief Prosecutor were about 2.484 billion KRW. Kim Seok-woo, Director of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, reported about 4.447 billion KRW, Shin Ja-yong, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, reported about 1.22 billion KRW, Lee Ju-hyung, Chief Prosecutor of Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, reported about 1.422 billion KRW, Lim Gwan-hyeok, Chief Prosecutor of Daejeon High Prosecutors' Office, reported about 459 million KRW, Choi Kyung-gyu, Chief Prosecutor of Busan High Prosecutors' Office, reported about 580 million KRW, and Hong Seung-wook, Chief Prosecutor of Gwangju High Prosecutors' Office, reported about 1.049 billion KRW.


The average assets of Ministry of Justice executives were about 1.466 billion KRW, and the average assets of Supreme Prosecutors' Office executives were about 1.692 billion KRW. The average assets of the chiefs of 18 district prosecutors' offices nationwide were confirmed to be about 2.952 billion KRW.
