Honoring War Heroes from Changnyeong Region Who Distinguished Themselves in the Korean War and Vietnam War
On the 26th, Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, held a 'Completion Ceremony for the Renovation of the Meritorious Service Monument' attended by about 60 people, including County Governor Seong Nak-in, heads of local veterans organizations, and the Director of the Gyeongnam Eastern Veterans Office.
The Changnyeong-gun branch of the Meritorious Service Association erected the Meritorious Service Monument in January 2002 in the Toecheon-ri area of Changnyeong-eup to honor the meritorious servicemen from Changnyeong who distinguished themselves during the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and to widely pass down the noble patriotism and love for the homeland of national veterans to future generations.

The existing Meritorious Service Monument, a memorial facility built over 20 years ago, had become worn and aged with time, prompting calls for renovation whenever visitors came to pay their respects.
Last year, the Changnyeong-gun Meritorious Service Monument was selected as a target for renovation under the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs' memorial facility renovation project. This year, with a total project cost of approximately 96 million KRW, including about 86 million KRW in national funds and about 9 million KRW in county funds, renovation work covering about 350㎡ (105 pyeong) was completed.
This renovation project included the installation of monuments for the 16 countries that participated in the Korean War, floor repairs, and the construction of retaining walls, honoring the meritorious servicemen and embedding the true meaning of national defense against the backdrop of the war's grandeur.
Governor Seong stated, "I hope the newly refurbished Meritorious Service Monument will be reborn as a meaningful place of learning that honors the spirits of the patriotic martyrs and national heroes, reminds us of our roots, and promotes the spirit of love for our country."
