5G Plans Starting at 20,000 KRW... Expanding User Choice
5G Youth Plans Also Increase Data Allowance for More Benefits
SK Telecom and LG Uplus have launched 5G plans priced in the 30,000 KRW range. Following KT, these two mobile carriers have also introduced mid-range 5G plans, expanding users' options for selecting plans.
On the 27th, SKT and LG Uplus announced the launch of 5G plans priced in the 30,000 KRW range. SKT introduced a 5G plan at 39,000 KRW per month, while LG Uplus offered one at 37,000 KRW per month. In addition, SKT launched an online-only 5G plan in the 20,000 KRW range, and both carriers expanded data allowances for their 5G youth plans, showing efforts to increase users' choices and benefits for mid-range plans.
5G Plans in the 30,000 KRW Range Launched... SKT Lowers Online-Only Plans to the 20,000 KRW Range
SKT will launch the 'Compact' plan at 39,000 KRW per month and the 'Compact Plus' plan at 45,000 KRW per month on the 28th. The data allowances for Compact and Compact Plus are 6GB and 8GB respectively. When users exhaust their data, they can continue to use data at speeds up to 400kbps.
SKT will also increase the data allowances for its existing mid-range plans starting April 1. The Basic plan priced at 49,000 KRW per month will increase its data from 8GB to 11GB, and the Slim plan at 55,000 KRW per month will increase from 11GB to 15GB.
Additionally, SKT offers a data top-up service allowing users to purchase additional data as needed. Users on the Compact, Compact Plus, Basic, and Slim plans can top up 1 to 4GB of additional data once per month for 3,000 KRW per top-up, depending on the plan.
SKT is the first in the industry to launch an online-only plan in the 20,000 KRW range. The 'Direct 5G 27' plan at 27,000 KRW per month provides 6GB of data. Another online-only plan, 'Direct 5G 31,' offers 8GB of data for 31,000 KRW per month. These online-only plans can be subscribed to through SKT's official online store, T Direct Shop.
LG Uplus introduced the '5G Mini' plan priced at 37,000 KRW per month, offering 5GB of data. After using all data, users can continue at speeds up to 400kbps. LG Uplus is also expanding data allowances for its existing mid-range 5G plans. Starting next month, the '5G Slim+' plan at 47,000 KRW per month will increase its basic data from 6GB to 9GB. The '5G Light+' plan at 55,000 KRW per month will also increase its basic data to 14GB.
To expand customer choices in the 50,000 KRW price range, LG Uplus is launching the '5G Basic+' plan. Priced at 59,000 KRW per month, this plan provides 24GB of data with continued usage at speeds up to 1Mbps after data exhaustion.
LG Uplus also launched direct plans: '5G Direct 42' (42,000 KRW per month, 24GB) and '5G Direct 30' (30,000 KRW per month, 5GB). The '5G Direct 30' plan is available for subscription on Uplus.com until August 31.
5G Youth Plans Also Enhanced... Increased Data Allowances
SKT launched the '0 Youth 37' plan for customers aged 34 and under, offering the same benefits as the 'Compact' plan (39,000 KRW per month) at a discounted price of 37,000 KRW. The youth plans '0 Youth 43' (43,000 KRW per month) and '0 Youth 49' (49,000 KRW per month) have increased data allowances from 6GB to 8GB and from 12GB to 15GB respectively. Additional data top-up services are also available for the 0 Youth plans.
LG Uplus expanded the subscription age range for its Youth 5G plans from 19-29 years to 19-34 years. The 'Youth 5G Light' plan at 55,000 KRW per month and the 'Youth 5G Slim+' plan at 47,000 KRW per month have increased data allowances by up to 53%, providing 26GB and 15GB respectively. New Youth Direct plans offering 36GB of data at 42,000 KRW per month and 10GB at 30,000 KRW per month have also been launched. The 'Youth 5G Direct 30' plan is available for subscription on Uplus.com until August 31.
Meanwhile, SKT will offer a 2,000 KRW discount on the 'Wavve & Data' add-on service priced at 9,900 KRW per month starting next month to reduce customers' burden for online video streaming services (OTT). Subscribers to plans from Compact to 5GX Regular Plus (79,000 KRW per month) and from 0 Youth 37 (37,000 KRW per month) to 0 Youth 79 (79,000 KRW per month) can receive this discount when using the add-on service. SKT will also launch the '5GX Premium' plan priced at 109,000 KRW per month on the 28th, which combines unlimited data with the Woozoo Pass subscription benefits.
LG Uplus will provide Disney Plus discount benefits across all 5G plan tiers through its subscription platform 'U-Dok.' This benefit is scheduled to be applied from next month through December.
