The signing ceremony held at Syracuse University was attended by Lee Won-jik, CEO of Lotte Biologics, Shin Yoo-yeol, Head of Global Strategy (Head of Future Growth at Lotte Holdings), and Kent Syverud, President of Syracuse University. Syracuse University, founded in 1870, is one of the major prestigious private universities in the United States. It consists of a total of 13 colleges and is also known as the alma mater of U.S. President Joe Biden and New York Governor Kathy Hochul.
Through this agreement, both institutions plan to jointly develop an introductory education course not only for Syracuse University students but also for prospective bio talents worldwide interested in the industry regardless of nationality, gender, or age. The detailed content is designed with the goal of narrowing the gap between educational sites that nurture talent and industries that hire talent. To this end, researchers from Lotte Biologics will directly participate in preparing teaching materials and reviewing lecture plans to reflect practical experience, field characteristics, and trends rather than being overly theoretical.
Starting with the development of this education program, Lotte Biologics plans to continue mid- to long-term industry-academia cooperation with Syracuse University. Syracuse University will provide its graduates with employment opportunities in the bio industry, while Lotte Biologics expects to gain opportunities for education that can enhance workforce expertise and to secure excellent overseas talent in advance.
Lee Won-jik, CEO of Lotte Biologics, said, “Through the development of this education program, we hope that students will have the opportunity to experience both Syracuse University’s specialized knowledge and Lotte Biologics’ practical know-how,” adding, “We will continue to strive to provide high-quality education for future domestic and international talents who wish to enter the bio industry based on collaboration with various industry-academia institutions.” Kent Syverud, President of Syracuse University, also said, “Through this cooperation, Syracuse University and Lotte Biologics will nurture talents equipped with the technology, experience, and knowledge needed in the bio and pharmaceutical fields,” and added, “We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with Lotte Biologics, a global industry leader, through this education program.”
