Gyeonggi Province will invest 180 million KRW starting in April to provide free gas safety devices such as timer cocks and carbon monoxide alarms to 3,400 vulnerable households.
The support targets include elderly people aged 65 or older living alone, basic pension recipients, basic livelihood security recipients, low-income households, people with disabilities, and multicultural families within the province.
The safety devices installed for the vulnerable gas safety groups include the 'timer cock,' which automatically shuts off the gas valve after a set time, and the 'CO alarm,' which sounds an alert if carbon monoxide exhaust gas leaks.
Since 2012, Gyeonggi Province has distributed gas safety devices to 51,405 households vulnerable to gas safety issues.
Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The gas safety device distribution project is an important initiative to protect the precious lives and property of vulnerable gas safety groups," and added, "We will continue to make efforts to ensure the gas safety of residents."
