Applications open until March 29 for youth needing prevention of flight/deviation or protection
Practical support including living expenses, academic aid, activity support, and tattoo removal
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) is actively stepping forward with special support projects for at-risk youth.
The support targets youth aged 9 to 24 who are ▲ in need of support to prevent delinquency and deviation ▲ out-of-school youth ▲ youth who have no guardian or are not effectively protected by a guardian and are facing social and economic difficulties.
The eligibility condition requires that the income of the parent living together and actually supporting the youth must be at or below 100% of the median income.
The support items include ▲ living support (up to 650,000 KRW per month) ▲ academic support (up to 150,000 KRW per month) ▲ counseling support (up to 300,000 KRW per month) ▲ activity support (up to 300,000 KRW per month), with the support period running from April to December.
Additionally, the district is promoting a ‘Tattoo Removal Project’ for youth who regret getting tattoos on impulse. Since 2019, it has been linked with two local hospitals under agreement to provide up to 10 tattoo removal procedures.
Youth wishing to apply for special support and tattoo removal can visit their local community service center by the 29th. After review by the Gwanak-gu Youth Welfare Committee, the final recipients will be selected in April.
Selected recipients can also receive 2 to 3 case management sessions at the Gwanak-gu Youth Counseling and Welfare Center.
For detailed information regarding support for at-risk youth, inquiries can be made to the Gwanak-gu Office’s Child and Youth Division.
Along with this, the district has implemented various projects such as ▲ youth activity revitalization ▲ support for at-risk youth ▲ blocking harmful environments and expanding protection for youth ▲ strengthening youth participation rights ▲ youth support linked with local resources. As a result, last year it was honored as an excellent institution in the ‘2023 Youth Policy Excellent Local Government Evaluation’ and received the Prime Minister’s Award.
The district plans to continue listening to the diverse voices of youth and provide practical help needed by them, dedicating full efforts to promoting healthy growth and welfare of youth.
A district official stated, “We have prepared various special supports for youth who may be at risk, and will continue to do our best to support the healthy and proper growth of our district’s youth.”
