Lee Byung-hoon, Chairman of the Democratic Party Gwangju City Committee, and General Election Candidates Announce Specific Pledges

Lee Byung-hoon, Chairman of the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party Committee, and Gwangju National Assembly candidates (Jung Jin-wook, Ahn Do-gul, Jo In-cheol, Yang Bu-nam, Jung Jun-ho, Jeon Jin-sook, Park Gyun-taek, Min Hyung-bae) announced comprehensive regional pledges.


On the 26th, they held a press conference starting with a report on the activities of the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party’s 22nd General Election Pledge Development Team, followed by Chairman Lee Byung-hoon’s announcement of overall regional pledges for Gwangju, and the announcement of regional pledges by the eight Gwangju constituency National Assembly preliminary candidates.

The Gwangju regional pledges consist of five main points: ▲Implementation of a national responsibility system for youth housing ▲Implementation of a national responsibility system for dementia ▲Issuance of Culture Nuri Cards to all citizens ▲Creation of Gwangju as an entire city X-MAS demonstration city ▲Establishment of the largest startup valley in the southwestern region of Gwangju.


The implementation of the national responsibility system for youth housing aims to prevent jeonse fraud and stabilize housing to increase the birth rate, promote the national purchase and public housing conversion of properties from the baby boom generation.


The implementation of the national responsibility system for dementia includes expanding public dementia-specialized nursing facilities in Gwangju and building a community care culture.


Additionally, Culture Nuri Cards will be issued to all citizens to provide opportunities for everyone to enjoy various cultural and artistic performances.


By creating Gwangju as an entire city X-MAS demonstration city, a special demonstration zone will be designated, a platform established, and demonstration support projects centered on startup companies will be promoted.


Through the establishment of the largest startup valley in the southwestern region, the plan is to create the largest startup cluster in the southwest, nurture specialized personnel linked with local universities and Changwon support, and build a cooperation model between anchor companies and startups.


Following this, the pledges of the eight Gwangju constituency National Assembly candidates were also announced.


Jung Jin-wook, candidate for Dong-gu Nam-gu Gap, promised to attract additional public institutions related to energy and actively attract small and medium enterprises with advanced technology, as well as resolve chronic traffic congestion in Nam-gu such as at Baegun Intersection.


Ahn Do-gul, candidate for Dong-gu Nam-gu Eul, plans to promote three mega national projects to foster the old downtown as a future food industry hub and implement seven major projects to resolve key civil complaints in Dong-gu and Nam-gu.


Jo In-cheol, candidate for Seo-gu Gap, announced the creation of Bitgoeul Techno Valley as a future industry hub through the completion of the Sangmu urban convergence special zone, modernization of Yangdong Market, and naturalization of Gwangju Stream.


Yang Bu-nam, candidate for Seo-gu Eul, emphasized establishing the Seo-gu Million City system and building an AI-based Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) to create a Seo-gu without traffic congestion.


Jung Jun-ho, candidate for Buk-gu Gap, revealed plans to restore Seobangcheon ecological stream to create an environment where water, people, and the local economy flow, and to develop Usan Neighborhood Park as a dog-friendly park.


Jeon Jin-sook, candidate for Buk-gu Eul, emphasized establishing an Asian culture and tourism content hub, fostering the city as a high-tech industry center, and restoring disconnected urban spaces through transportation system improvements.


Park Gyun-taek, candidate for Gwangsan-gu Gap, promised to abolish the Pyeongdong shooting range and lay the groundwork for building a complex welfare town, improve residential welfare in development-restricted zones through institutional reforms, and promote policies to increase rural population inflow.


Min Hyung-bae, candidate for Gwangsan-gu Eul, announced plans to secure future food industries for Gwangju and Gwangsan-gu through fostering the artificial intelligence (AI) industry and promote the Gwangju-Jeonnam Energy Mega City to advance Gwangju and Gwangsan-gu.


Lee Byung-hoon, Chairman of the Gwangju City Party Committee, said, “This event was organized to widely share the promises of the Gwangju City Party and our candidates for the development of Gwangju,” and pledged, “We will definitely lead this general election to victory so that the lives of Gwangju citizens and the common people of the Republic of Korea can become warmer.”


He added, “April 10 is the day to judge the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, which has undermined democracy and destroyed people’s livelihoods,” and requested, “I ask all Gwangju citizens and party members to unite with one heart to restore the Republic of Korea.”


Meanwhile, ahead of the 22nd National Assembly election, the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party plans to hold a launch ceremony for the Democratic Party Gwangju Metropolitan City Party Election Countermeasures Committee at 10 a.m. on the 28th at the 5·18 Democracy Square.
