Socar announced on the 26th that from June 2022 until the end of last year, over 10,000 Socar users rented electric vehicles to participate in eco-friendly mobility and received carbon neutrality practice points worth 45 million KRW.
The Carbon Neutrality Practice Points Green Life initiative, operated by the Korea Environment Corporation, is a system that provides incentives to citizens who engage in eco-friendly activities with private companies to promote a culture of carbon-neutral living, such as renting zero-emission vehicles like electric cars, issuing electronic receipts, and purchasing eco-friendly products with Green Cards.
The maximum annual points that can be earned by traveling with Socar electric vehicles is 70,000 KRW, and the accumulated points are paid monthly in cash or as credit card points.
According to Socar data, over 10,000 Socar users enrolled in the carbon neutrality points program rented electric vehicles 33,000 times over the past 18 months. They traveled a total of 8 million kilometers, reducing 785 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
Based on this, Socar estimates the accumulated carbon neutrality practice points to be approximately 45 million KRW (excluding amounts exceeding the annual limit of 70,000 KRW). On average, each person received point benefits worth 45,000 KRW.
Jinho Jeong, head of Socar EV Strategy Business Team, said, "Due to the influence of eco-friendly consumption trends, the use of electric vehicles within Socar is steadily increasing. We will expand convenience services specialized for electric vehicles, such as charging guarantee services, to make it easier and more convenient to use electric vehicles without difficulty."
