Selected for 2 Seoul Yakja Donghaeng Autonomous District Support Projects, Securing a Total of 135 Million KRW
AI Check-in Service for Single-Person Households, Disability-Friendly Book Cafe & Companion Beauty Salon
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) has secured a total project budget of 135 million KRW after its ‘AI Anbu Dundeun Service’ and ‘Disability-Friendly Book Cafe & Companion Hair Salon’ projects were selected in Seoul’s ‘2024 Support Project for Autonomous Districts Accompanying the Vulnerable’ contest.
Seoul’s ‘Support Project for Autonomous Districts Accompanying the Vulnerable’ is a contest aimed at autonomous districts to discover and support projects targeting vulnerable groups tailored to local characteristics, thereby spreading the value of accompanying the vulnerable.
Both selected projects are incentive programs implemented by the autonomous district with proven effectiveness, and Dongdaemun-gu received the largest budget among Seoul’s autonomous districts.
The ‘AI Anbu Dundeun Service’ is currently underway in the district and provides 24/7 monitoring of single-person households at risk of solitary death using AI, ensuring the safety of the subjects without any care gaps or interruptions. Without installing additional devices at home, the AI detects abnormal situations by analyzing power, communication, and care apps, then calls to check on the person’s wellbeing. In emergencies, the control center dispatches personnel on-site promptly to prevent solitary deaths.
Through this contest selection, the service will be significantly expanded from the current 260 households to 1,100 households, accelerating the realization of a solitary-death-free Dongdaemun-gu and the promotion of the district’s flagship project, the Dongdaemun-type Smart City initiative.
The ‘Disability-Friendly Book Cafe & Companion Hair Salon’ aims to resolve inconveniences in beauty services caused by disabilities and improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. This project benchmarks excellent cases from other autonomous districts and adapts them to the district’s circumstances. It plans to establish and operate a dedicated hair salon for people with disabilities inside the local welfare center for the disabled and add a book cafe in unused spaces to provide users with a place to relax.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Through this contest selection, we have been able to expand support for socially vulnerable groups,” adding, “We will continue to accompany the vulnerable, carefully watch over residents to ensure no one is left behind, and do our best to create a Dongdaemun-gu without welfare blind spots.”
