Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it received the Grand Prize in the Local Government category at the '2024 Korea Value Management Awards' held at the Korea Press Center on March 21.
The 'Korea Value Management Awards' is hosted by Herald Economy and The Korea Herald, and organized by Monthly Power Korea. It recognizes companies and organizations that have significantly contributed to national development and competitiveness. Candidates were initially selected through each institution's database and expert recommendations across five categories (local government/public institutions, manufacturing, finance/hospitals, tourism/leisure, education/law), followed by final selection through evaluation by a panel of expert judges.
At this award ceremony, Songpa-gu was recognized for its achievements focused on practicing 'servant administration,' including ▲rapid promotion of redevelopment and reconstruction ▲creation of a premium street on Songpa-daero ▲supplementing public education through native English-speaking classrooms ▲enactment of the nation's first ordinance banning political party banners and operation of a resident evaluation group ▲development of an urban brand reflecting residents' opinions.
In the 8th term of the elected administration, Songpa-gu has set the vision of 'a premium city serving its residents as owners,' and is striving to practice 'servant administration' throughout the district administration based on the core values of creativity, innovation, and fairness.
In particular, last year’s ▲nation’s first implementation of 'native English-speaking classrooms in daycare centers and kindergartens' stands out. Thanks to the high satisfaction rate of 99% among parents, the program plans to expand its target to include children up to age 4 this year. Providing an equitable educational environment for all and filling gaps in public childcare were cited as major achievements.
Additionally, ▲the nation’s first ordinance banning 'hate, slander, and insult political party banners' was enacted, and administrative innovation was achieved through the operation of a 'resident evaluation group.' Instead of unilateral administrative decisions, the removal of hate, slander, and insult political party banners is carried out based on evaluations by the resident group, ensuring the freedom of typical political activities while providing a safe urban environment for residents, earning excellent evaluations.
Furthermore, the district is actively promoting projects to enhance Songpa-gu’s urban competitiveness and regional revitalization, such as ▲rapid promotion of reconstruction and redevelopment and ▲creation of a premium street on Songpa-daero. By creating new value and pursuing various innovations, Songpa-gu plans to devote all efforts to achieving the vision of 'a premium city serving its residents as owners.'
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, pledged, “We will continue to practice unwavering 'servant administration' and pursue innovation. We will tirelessly work to realize the vision and future of Songpa promised to our residents.”
