Pyeongtaek City Forms Public-Private Cooperation Council for Pyeongtaek Jije Station Area District

33,000 Housing Units Planned on 4.53 Million㎡
"Discussion on Practical Communication Measures and Resettlement Plans"

A consultative body has been launched to facilitate the smooth progress of the 'Pyeongtaek Jije Station Area Public Housing District' in Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, which has been facing difficulties due to opposition from local residents.

On the 25th, Pyeongtaek City announced that it recently formed and held a meeting of the 'Public-Private Cooperation Council,' composed of resident representatives, Pyeongtaek City, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), to listen to various opinions from residents and discuss solutions for the smooth progress of the Pyeongtaek Jije Station Area District project.

The Pyeongtaek Jije Station Area District is a newly designated public housing district selected last June as part of the government's plan to expand housing supply. It covers an area of 4.53 million square meters across Jije-dong, Sindae-dong, Segyo-dong, Mogok-dong, and Godeok-myeon in Pyeongtaek City, where a total of 33,000 housing units are planned to be built.

However, since the district designation, the project has faced difficulties due to strong opposition from residents, including urban development business associations within the district. Residents have demanded ▲ opposition to the project and land readjustment projects ▲ formation of a consultative body for communication with residents ▲ expansion of indirect compensation ▲ consultation on the location of resettlement housing ▲ and institutional improvements for capital gains tax reductions.

Accordingly, the city explained that it formed the 'Public-Private Cooperation Council' this time to regularly discuss fair compensation and resettlement plans. The council will hold regular meetings once every two months to discuss agenda items submitted in advance based on the review results by each institution.

A city official said, "With the formation of this council, we will continue to communicate with residents to discuss realistic livelihood measures and resettlement plans," adding, "We will strive to develop the Pyeongtaek Jije Station Area into an urban space that can represent Pyeongtaek City."
