The area around Seocho Station Legal Complex is being reborn as a representative legal culture street of the Republic of Korea. Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 25th that the area surrounding Seocho Station, which houses the Supreme Court, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, will be designated as the "Judicial Justice Hub" street.

The section covers an area of 536,000㎡ centered on Banpodaero, stretching from Seocho Station to Nue Bridge, and Seocho-daero from Seoripul Tunnel to Gyodae Station.

This area is densely populated with Korea's leading legal institutions, including the Supreme Court, the Korean Bar Association, and various law firms, fostering active legal cultural activities through physical and human infrastructure. In the future, when linked with the construction of a complex cultural center on the former site of the nearby Intelligence Service, it is expected to play a pivotal role as a cultural hub.

The street designation was made through committee deliberation based on five criteria according to the "Seocho-gu Ordinance on the Creation and Support of Cultural Streets": cultural identity, surrounding cultural facilities, resident usage, cultural ripple effects, and development potential. The finalized designation will be officially announced on the 26th.

This designation announcement is expected to accelerate the creation of the "Judicial Justice Hub." Seocho-gu is currently conducting design development and landscape improvement projects, planning to install distinctive facilities such as sculptures themed on judicial justice and improve the surrounding environment to create a specialized street with a story.

Additionally, for residents, the street will shed its previously solemn and rigid image and become a place where they can participate in and enjoy legal culture. In cooperation with the Supreme Court, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and the Bar Association, programs such as judicial tours to experience the history of law and judicial systems, easy-to-understand legal education centered on demand to improve legal knowledge, legal-related exhibitions, film screenings, and concerts will be prepared to offer friendly programs that embrace law as culture.

Seocho-gu stated that with this designation of the "Judicial Justice Hub" street, it has taken a step closer to creating the Seocho-gu "Cultural Belt" along Banpodaero. The district plans to complete the cultural belt by connecting five specialized streets from Umyeonsan Mountain to Banpo Hangang Park: Instrument Street, Music & Festival Street, Judicial Justice Hub, Book Culture Street, and Tourism & Shopping Street.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, "Starting with the designation of the Judicial Justice Hub street, we will nurture the Seocho Legal Complex area into the representative legal culture center of Korea," adding, "We will strive to transform it into a symbolic street that leaps forward as a world-class legal city and the 'Judicial and Justice Capital' of the Asia-Pacific region."
