Gwanak-gu to Create 12,100 Jobs This Year

Establishment of the '2024 Comprehensive Job Policy Plan'... Targeting 12,100 Jobs and 66.9% Employment Rate
Implementing 19 Action Tasks Across 5 Core Strategies Including Gwanak S-Valley Development and Largest Public Job Provision in Seoul

Gwanak-gu to Create 12,100 Jobs This Year

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has established the '2024 Comprehensive Job Policy Plan' and is actively working to create future and innovative jobs and to restore the livelihood economy.

Gwanak-gu aims to create 12,100 jobs this year. To achieve this, the district will implement 19 action tasks under five core strategies: ▲ job creation through the establishment of the Gwanak S-Valley startup ecosystem ▲ livelihood stabilization through customized job projects for vulnerable groups ▲ economic recovery through local industry promotion ▲ support for the independence and settlement of future talent youth ▲ efforts to improve the quality of jobs.

First, under the strategy of ‘Creating Future and Innovative Jobs through the Establishment of the Gwanak S-Valley Startup Ecosystem,’ the district will attract excellent venture and startup companies and guide their growth and settlement to create innovative jobs within the region.

So far, the district has operated venture startup infrastructure, supporting 126 companies and 1,014 people with startup spaces. This year, the district plans to expand startup spaces to accommodate 273 people through ‘Startup HERO-1’ and Building 943 of the Seoul National University Research Park.

Additionally, the district will support the growth of excellent venture and startup companies by providing financial support and investment attraction through ▲ linking ‘Startup Scale-up’ and ‘Demo Day’ ▲ open innovation ▲ hosting startup festivals ▲ fund operation.

Next, under the strategy of ‘Supporting the Independence and Settlement of Future Talent Youth,’ the district will spare no effort to provide comprehensive support so that young people can settle in the region after becoming independent through employment.

Since its opening in April last year, ‘Gwanak Youth Center,’ which serves as an integrated platform for youth support, will continue to operate, promoting various projects to strengthen youth job-seeking capabilities, including ▲ employment mentoring and consulting ▲ interview image consulting studio ▲ operation of 4th industrial IT youth talent training courses ▲ support for the Eoljuka Gwanak Youth Account.

In particular, this year, the district plans to newly implement the ‘Youth Language and Certification Exam Fee Support’ project to reduce the economic burden on job-seeking youth and the ‘Youth Health Keeper’ project to enable youth to manage their health without spatial and temporal constraints.

Also, under the strategy of ‘Livelihood Stabilization through Customized Job Projects for Vulnerable Groups,’ the district aims to stabilize daily life by supporting job seeking for vulnerable groups.

Following last year, the district will continue to provide 1,388 public jobs through projects such as the ‘Gang Gam-chan Gwanak-type Livelihood Stabilization Jobs,’ the largest scale in Seoul.

Furthermore, the district will offer regionally tailored job opportunities to about 208 job seekers by promoting ▲ Seoul-type New Deal jobs ▲ career-type jobs for middle-aged seniors ▲ vocational education and training academies.

To connect small and medium-sized enterprises struggling with recruitment and job seekers, the district operates a ‘Job Center’ on the first floor of the district office year-round, runs ‘On-site Employment Counseling Rooms’ at Seoul National University Entrance Station and Sillim Station from April, and plans to hold ‘Online and Offline Job Fairs’ in October.

Moreover, under the strategy of ‘Economic Recovery through Local Industry Promotion,’ the district strives to revitalize the local economy and create jobs.

To strengthen the competitiveness of small business owners, the district will steadily implement ▲ Alleyway Commercial District Merchant University ▲ support for merchant study group activities ▲ discovery and nurturing of key stores ▲ Gwanak-type Artterior ▲ loan support from the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Fund.

Additionally, to encourage local consumption, the district will continue to promote ▲ issuance of Gwanak Love Gift Certificates ▲ alleyway commercial district festivals ▲ Starlight Sinsari Commercial District Renaissance Project.

Notably, this month, Sharosugil was selected for the Seoul City Commercial District Promotion Project, ‘2024 Local Brand Commercial District Promotion Project,’ and up to 3 billion KRW will be invested over three years to develop a commercial district suited to local characteristics and further strengthen competitiveness.

Meanwhile, the district exceeded its job creation target by more than 109% last year and achieved great success by winning the ‘National Local Government Job Award’ for two consecutive years.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Jobs are the best welfare,” and added, “As the economic mayor, I will continue to make every effort to implement various economic and job policies to make Gwanak a happy and prosperous place for residents.”
