A current police officer suspected of leaking investigation information about actor Lee Seon-gyun, who died while under investigation for drug use, is facing detention.
On the 23rd, Judge Song Baek-hyun of the Suwon District Court Criminal Division 1 conducted a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) at 3 p.m. for police officer A from the Incheon Police Agency, who is charged with official secrets leakage and violation of the Personal Information Protection Act.
Police officer A, affiliated with the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, who was suspected of leaking investigation information about actor Lee Seon-gyun (48), who died while under investigation for drug use, and was charged with breach of official secrets and violation of the Personal Information Protection Act, is coming out of the detention center at Suwon Nambu Police Station in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do on the afternoon of the 23rd to attend the pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing). A appeared around 1:50 p.m., before the hearing, wearing a hat and black clothes in front of the Suwon Nambu Police Station. He did not respond to reporters' questions such as "Do you admit to leaking investigation details?" or "Do you have anything to say?" and was escorted into the police vehicle.
A is suspected of leaking a report containing the progress of Lee's drug case investigation to outside parties. Officer A, a senior official at the Incheon Police Agency, is understood to be working in a department other than the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division.
The Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency, which is investigating this case, conducted a search and seizure of the Incheon Police Agency on the 21st, capturing evidence that A leaked investigation materials and subsequently arrested him. A was suspended from duty immediately after his arrest.
Lee's drug use allegations were first reported by the media on October 19 of last year. Subsequently, while undergoing police questioning, Lee made an extreme choice on December 27 of last year.
Afterwards, the Incheon Police Agency requested the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency to investigate the circumstances of the information leak. The police have been conducting investigations, including search and seizure of the Incheon Police Agency's Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, which handled Lee's case, and media outlets that reported relatively detailed information about Lee's investigation.
