SK Telecom Offers Up to 320,000 KRW Switching Support... Public Subsidies Also Expanded

SK Telecom has increased the scale of conversion subsidies, which provide instant discounts on device prices for number porting customers, up to a maximum of 320,000 KRW.

Starting from the 23rd, SKT has added 10 devices, including Samsung Galaxy Fold4, Fold5, S23, and Apple iPhone 14, to the list of devices eligible for conversion subsidies, providing conversion subsidies for a total of 16 devices. Additionally, the maximum conversion subsidy, which was previously around 120,000 KRW, has been raised to 320,000 KRW.

With this increase in conversion subsidies, customers can receive up to 1,000,000 KRW in support when purchasing the standard model of the Samsung Galaxy Fold4, priced at 1,598,000 KRW. This is because when subscribing to the 5GX Platinum plan (monthly base fee of 125,000 KRW), which offers unlimited 5G data, a public subsidy of 720,000 KRW and a conversion subsidy of 280,000 KRW are provided.

SKT stated that it will lower the prices of high-end mobile phones through public subsidies and conversion subsidies while also strengthening support for mid-range and low-end mobile phones.

On the 15th, the public subsidy level was increased by 110,000 KRW for the Samsung Galaxy S24 model to 480,000 KRW when selecting the 5GX Prime plan (monthly base fee of 89,000 KRW), and the Z Flip5 model subsidy was raised by 100,000 KRW to 580,000 KRW.

Following the recent application of conversion subsidies to the Galaxy A24 and A15, which allowed customers to receive these models as 'free phones,' SKT has added the Galaxy Wide 6 model from this day, increasing the number of models eligible for free phone application to three.

SKT said, "We will quickly establish a computerized system for providing conversion subsidies to simplify the distribution network payment procedures," and added, "Together with the Korea Communications Commission, we will work to eradicate illegal subsidy distribution channels to prevent user discrimination and market confusion caused by market overheating."
