On the 21st (local time), the US CNN reported that auction house Mullock & Jones plans to auction off a gold nugget recently discovered by a man named Richard Brock in Shropshire, England. Brock was searching the field with a metal detector when he found a 64.8g gold nugget, fulfilling his dream of a big find. Brock had come to Shropshire last May for treasure hunting, but upon arrival, his metal detector broke, so he had to switch to an old device. However, just five minutes after starting his search, he was lucky enough to pick up this gold nugget. The auction house stated that the nugget, named "Hiro's Nugget," is estimated to be worth about ?30,000 to ?40,000 (approximately 50 million to 67 million KRW). The auction is scheduled for the 1st of next month.

However, the exact circumstances of how the gold nugget came to be in the Shropshire uplands remain unclear. The auction house speculated, "There are old roads and railways around the discovery site, and parts of the area were submerged under the sea during prehistoric times," adding, "There are several possibilities regarding how the gold nugget ended up here."

This newly discovered gold nugget appears to be the largest found so far in England. Across the UK, the largest recorded gold nugget was found in Scotland in 2019, weighing 121.3g. In February last year, a man in Melbourne, Australia, struck it rich by discovering a rock containing 2.6kg of gold with a metal detector. At the time, the gold was valued at well over 200 million KRW. In 2019, a caf? owner in the UK found a gold necklace in a field using a metal detector. The necklace was a genuine gold piece engraved with the initials of Henry VIII and his queen from the Tudor dynasty in the 16th century, valued at about 1.5 billion KRW at the time.
