A Total of 9 Locations Installed This Year... Enhancing Convenience for Public Transport Users
4 Locations Completed in Hospital and Residential Areas, 5 Planned in Steel Complex
Pohang City has installed a total of 9 smart fine dust safe bus stops to protect against cold and heat, helping to improve convenience for public transportation users.
The smart fine dust safe bus stops have been installed and operated since 2019, with a budget of 50 million KRW per location, totaling 24 locations by last year.
In the first half of this year, installations were completed at four locations: Hwanho Haemaji Greenville Apartments, Seonrin Hospital, Yukgeori, and Yuseong Girls' High School. In the second half, five major public transportation hubs with high fine dust concentrations within the steel industrial complex will be selected for installation.
The city is selecting target sites by surveying bus stops with a monthly average of over 1,500 bus users, high foot traffic, and sidewalks wider than 6 meters.
Inside the bus stops, there are various convenience facilities including bus information displays, heating and cooling systems, air purifiers, fine dust monitors, automatic doors, and internet routers. These advanced public transportation convenience facilities not only enhance the convenience of public transportation use but also serve as spaces where vulnerable groups such as the elderly, disabled, and pregnant women can rest during outdoor activities amid fine dust, cold waves, and heat waves, receiving positive responses from citizens.
Kim Young-hwan, Director of Public Transportation, said, “The fine dust safe bus stops are a transportation platform that protects citizens' health and safety from heat waves, cold waves, fine dust, and yellow dust, while providing active convenience to public transportation users with various smart facilities. We will continue to build transportation platforms that reflect the diverse needs of citizens.”
