Gangbuk-gu, Customized Capacity Building Education for Parents

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) will conduct customized capacity-building education for parents starting in April to help them become guides for their children amid the rapidly changing educational environment.

This education is divided into a ‘Customized Relay Parent Education’ program for parents of elementary, middle, and high school students, and a ‘Parent-Led College Entrance Exam Specialist Course’ for parents preparing for their children's university admissions.

First, the ‘Customized Relay Parent Education’ consists of three courses: ▲for high school parents (April 20, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM) ▲for elementary school parents (April 25, 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM) ▲for middle school parents (April 25, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM), all held at the 4th-floor auditorium of Gangbuk-gu Office.

The parent education for high school parents will be conducted by Choi Seung-hae, CEO of All-in-One Edu and operator of the YouTube channels ‘Ipsicheonjae Pentakill’ and ‘Ipsiwang,’ who will hold a college entrance explanation session covering the basics of the college admission system, changes in admission trends, and understanding the characteristics of admissions by grade level.

The elementary school parent education will be led by instructor Lee Eun-kyung, who runs the YouTube channel ‘Seulgiroun Elementary Life,’ and will discuss elementary self-directed study methods through literacy improvement.

The middle school parent education will be delivered by Jin Dong-seop, director of the Korea Career and Admission Information Center, who will give a lecture titled ‘The Start of Designing My Child’s Admission? Right Now!’

The ‘Parent-Led College Entrance Exam Specialist Course,’ which provides an overview of university admissions including early and regular admissions, essay exams, university holistic evaluation criteria, detailed abilities and special notes, and creative experiential activities, will be held from April to May. The lectures will be conducted by Kim Sung-il, CEO of the preliminary social enterprise Daehak-euroitda Co., Ltd.

This course will be operated in two sessions, each consisting of four curriculum sessions. The first session runs from April 23 to May 21, every Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and the second session runs from May 2 to 23, every Thursday from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, held at the 6th-floor multipurpose meeting room of Gangbuk-gu Office.

Residents wishing to participate can apply starting from 9:00 AM on March 27 through the Gangbuk-gu website (Citizen Participation → District Administration Participation → Integrated Reservation Application). The number of participants is limited to 200 per class for the ‘Customized Relay Parent Education’ and 30 per session for the ‘Parent-Led College Entrance Exam Specialist Course.’ Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “This education program was selected as one of the projects in last year’s Gangbuk-gu resident participation budget,” adding, “Since there was high demand from residents, we have prepared the curriculum thoroughly to ensure parents’ satisfaction and will do our best in preparing the education.”
