Geumcheon-gu Introduces 'Digital Cognitive Function Test' for Early Diagnosis of Dementia Patients

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the Dementia Safety Center will provide a ‘Digital Cognitive Function Test’ to users of the dementia prevention class starting this year.

The ‘Digital Cognitive Function Test’ is an assessment method that evaluates memory, attention, orientation, executive function, visuospatial ability, and language ability by performing tasks on a tablet computer.

Orientation refers to the ability to correctly recognize the current situation one is in.

In the past, cognitive function tests for dementia were paper-based tests led by the examiner. The ‘Digital Cognitive Function Test’ allows the examinee to take the test independently with the examiner’s assistance and has many advantages over paper tests.

It reduces the constraints of time and space and lessens the effort required by specialized personnel to conduct and interpret the test. The existing test was a one-on-one face-to-face test that took more than an hour, but the digital test can shorten the test time to about 30 minutes. Additionally, multiple people can be tested simultaneously, enabling efficient diagnosis of dementia patients.

Test data is automatically scored, and analysis results of six multiple cognitive domains are generated automatically in real time, which can be usefully applied to disease diagnosis. It can also precisely detect the degree of cognitive decline.

A Geumcheon-gu official said, “The digital cognitive function test is one way to drastically shorten dementia screening time and efficiently reallocate personnel,” adding, “We expect it to contribute to preventing severe progression by strengthening focused case management for dementia patients.”

Any resident aged 60 or older can apply, and the test is free of charge. It operates by advance reservation, and applicants can make a reservation by phone at the Geumcheon-gu Dementia Safety Center before visiting.

The district plans to provide integrated dementia management services to examinees, including dementia prevention, early detection, and appropriate management according to the progression stage.

Mayor Yu Seong-hoon said, “We implemented the ‘Digital Cognitive Function Test’ to help seniors more easily check and manage their cognitive abilities,” and added, “Since prevention and early detection of dementia are important, we hope many seniors will apply.”
