Is There No Risk of Ground Subsidence, Rockfall, or Collapse?... Songpa-gu Conducts Safety Inspections of Vulnerable Facilities Ahead of Thawing Season

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will conduct safety inspections of vulnerable facilities such as excavation sites, steep slopes, and road structures in the area to prepare for safety accidents during the thawing season.

The thawing season is a critical period for safety inspections as the ground, which has been frozen throughout the winter, softens, increasing the risk of ground subsidence, falling rocks, collapses, and other safety accidents.

Accordingly, the district has established a safety inspection plan for facilities in preparation for the thawing season and will conduct focused safety inspections on a total of 56 vulnerable facilities, selecting 10 excavation sites, 28 road structures, and 18 steep slopes by March 22.

In particular, on the 15th, Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, personally conducted a proactive inspection of reconstruction construction sites, remodeling construction sites, and retaining walls together with related department heads and external experts.

Through joint inspections, the district plans to enhance the effectiveness of inspections and strengthen district administration that prioritizes the lives and property of residents.

The main inspection items include ▲ checking for ground cracks around excavation site retaining walls and signs of road subsidence nearby ▲ confirming ground subsidence and the risk of toppling of road structures such as retaining walls ▲ focusing on abnormalities in steep slope facilities, falling rocks, and collapses.

Minor issues such as traffic obstructions found during inspections will be corrected immediately on-site, while serious defects or risk factors will be addressed with emergency measures followed by detailed safety diagnoses, repairs, reinforcements, and thorough follow-up management.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “We will do our best to continuously inspect and check facilities closely related to residents’ lives not only during the thawing season but also regularly to prevent safety accidents,” and added, “We will continue to focus all administrative capabilities to ensure residents can enjoy a safe daily life 24 hours a day.”
