Eunpyeong-gu Selected for Ministry of Education's 'Local Lifelong Learning Activation Support Project'

Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it is the only autonomous district in Seoul to be selected for the Ministry of Education’s “2024 Regional Lifelong Learning Activation Support” public contest, securing 25 million KRW in national funding.

This project aims to improve the quality of life for citizens and promote balanced regional development by supporting the activation of lifelong learning in local communities. It consists of support for new lifelong learning cities and specialized lifelong learning city projects.

Eunpyeong-gu has been designated as a “Lifelong Learning City” since 2012 and has been operating under this status to date. This year, it was the only autonomous district in Seoul selected for the “Specialized Lifelong Learning City Project.”

With the secured project funds, the district will operate “Eunpyeong 1-dong-1 University,” designating community service centers as lifelong learning spaces through agreements with universities for each community service center.

Additionally, a “Learning Type Assessment Tool” will be developed to objectively identify individual residents’ learning types and needs through testing. Based on this, lifelong learning activists who will effectively communicate with citizens through learning counseling will be trained and deployed.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “To realize a learning society in Eunpyeong that transcends boundaries and is led by citizens, we will actively support the establishment of lifelong learning cities tailored to the characteristics of each region, with the community at the center.”
