Successful Completion of 'Seokchon Lake Media Forest Concept Service Final Report Meeting' on the 18th... Accelerating the Creation of Songpa-daero Premium Street
▲Concrete ▲Hexahedron ▲Ribbon-shaped LED Media Sculptures Scheduled for Sequential Completion Starting Next Year
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) held the "Seokchon Lake Media Forest Basic Plan Final Report Meeting" on the 18th and completed the blueprint for the Media Forest project, a representative detailed project of the "Songpa-daero Premium Street Development," a pledge of the 8th local government administration.
The "Seokchon Lake Media Forest" is a large-scale project that installs multimedia sculptures along Seokchon Lake to create a scenic spot where art and cutting-edge technology harmonize. Starting from the first half of next year, it will be established at the 1.5km "Songpa Avenue" gateway, the core section of Songpa-daero from Seokchon Lake to Garak Market, naturally guiding visitors from the lake to Songpa-daero.
The final report meeting marked the conclusion of the six-month planning project, reflecting improvements made during the process and confirming a more solid project plan. Mayor Seo Gang-seok of Songpa-gu, along with experts in design, architecture, landscaping, and internal officials, shared the achievements and exchanged opinions on future plans.
The central theme running through the Media Forest project is the "Infinity Gallery," symbolizing infinite possibilities and communication. This theme is realized by installing a trio of multimedia sculptures called "light sculptures" on the south side of Seokchon Lake. On the west lake side, across Songpa-daero, the first to be completed will be ▲the massive 7-meter diameter sphere "Sphere Universe" and ▲the twin hexahedrons "The Cube," while on the east lake side, ▲the arch-shaped "The Line" will be sequentially installed in the waterside forest.
All sculptures will be wrapped with specially manufactured LED panels on their surfaces, transforming them into grand and aesthetic media art pieces. Landscape lighting will be installed to softly illuminate the surroundings, ensuring the dazzling sculptures harmonize seamlessly with the environment.
An official from the district explained, "The Media Forest has limitless potential as a medium. Focusing on artistic media art that complements the waterside scenery, it can be diversely utilized in the future as a platform for local artists, commercial district promotion, and linkage with local festivals."
During the review following the report, ideas to realize these possibilities were exchanged. Suggestions for video content included permanent videos full of Songpa’s history, culture, and nature, as well as timely event videos. Practical advice on enhancing durability and maintenance strategies was also provided. The district plans to actively incorporate these ideas in the upcoming detailed design project.
Mayor Seo Gang-seok of Songpa-gu stated, "Once the light sculptures, which showcase advanced imagination, are installed, the Songpa-daero Premium Street Development project will truly enter its full stride. We will strive to create a beautiful and vibrant space around Seokchon Lake so that residents can quickly experience the tangible results of this project."
