Busan Gijang-gun will officially launch the "2024 Gijang Humanities Empathy Academy" from April to November.

The "Gijang Humanities Empathy Academy" is a platform for communication and empathy with residents through the humanities. It is a "humanities-specialized lecture program" promoted by Gijang-gun to improve the quality of life of residents through the humanities and to create a humanities city. By inviting distinguished figures from various fields such as culture and arts, history, literature, and philosophy to give lectures, it provides residents with opportunities for new knowledge acquisition and diverse lifelong learning experiences.


Last year, the "Gijang Humanities Empathy Academy" was held six times in total. Renowned experts from various fields, including writer Kang Won-guk, Professor Lee Ji-seon of Social Welfare, Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Liberal Arts, and Professor Oh Han-jin of Family Medicine, participated extensively to share their specialized knowledge and experiences with residents. The lecture satisfaction rate was recorded at an average of over 90%, demonstrating strong community response.


This year’s "2024 Gijang Humanities Empathy Academy" will be held seven times from April to November, rotating between Gijang-gun Office (Chaseong Art Hall) and Jeonggwan Library (Children’s Theater). In particular, the county plans to visit residents with customized lectures that reflect the latest trends and issues and resonate with various social groups.


The first lecture of this year will be held on April 18 at 7 p.m. at the Sodubang Children’s Theater in Jeonggwan Library, with Professor Park Sang-mi (psychological counselor) presenting on the topic "How to Become Mentally Strong."


Professor Park Sang-mi is a professor in the interdisciplinary program at Hanyang University Graduate School and is well-known for her books such as ▲Practice is Needed in Relationships ▲What Is the Meaning of My Life ▲Mind, Who Are You? She also served as the dean of the psychological therapy education institution "Healing Campus The Gonggam" and has appeared on numerous broadcasts including ▲EBS "Park Sang-mi’s Relationship Counseling Center" ▲KBS "Morning Yard" ▲MBN "Dongchimi."


The lectures are free and open to all residents of Gijang-gun. Applications for participation can be made on a first-come, first-served basis starting from 9 a.m. on April 2 through the Gijang-gun Lifelong Learning website.


Jeong Jong-bok, the county governor, said, "We have prepared diverse humanities lectures that not only enhance residents’ humanities literacy but also provide emotional inspiration," and added, "We hope for the active interest and participation of all residents."
