Seoul City Supports Up to 80% of Repair Costs for Old Houses to "Improve Residential Environment"

Over 10 Years Old Houses: 50-80% Repair Cost Support for Vulnerable Residents, Semi-basements, and Rooftop Rooms

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has decided to partially support the repair costs for residents living in low-rise old houses to improve their living environment. On the 21st, the city announced that it will recruit households to participate in the "Safe Home Repair Subsidy Project," which includes this support.

The eligible targets are low-rise houses over 10 years old across the city, including ▲houses occupied by vulnerable households (below median income) ▲semi-basement houses ▲rooftop rooms that have resolved illegal building issues (legalized) ▲houses over 20 years old within housing performance improvement support zones.

Selected households can receive support for repair costs when conducting home repairs for internal performance improvements such as insulation, waterproofing, windows, and facilities; installing safety facilities for flood and fire prevention; and installing convenience facilities such as removing internal level differences and safety handrails.

For houses of vulnerable households, 80% of the repair costs (up to 12 million KRW) will be supported; for semi-basement houses, 50% of the repair costs (up to 6 million KRW); and for rooftop rooms or houses within housing performance improvement support zones, 50% of the repair costs (up to 12 million KRW) will be subsidized.

Households wishing to participate can submit the required documents (application form, estimate, construction plan, and other attachments) to the district office where the house is located from the 1st to the 30th of next month. The announcement and application forms can be found on the Seoul city or Jipsuri.com websites.

The city will prioritize providing the Safe Home Repair Subsidy to vulnerable households such as basic livelihood security recipients, and for other applicants, the final selection of support recipients will be made through the Seoul Metropolitan Government Local Subsidy Management Committee's review, considering factors such as the age of the house and the necessity of support.

For houses with tenants, support will be provided on the condition of signing a rent coexistence agreement, freezing rent for four years, and guaranteeing the residence period to ensure stable living for tenants.

Han Byung-yong, Director of the Seoul Housing Policy Office, said, "We will actively help reduce the repair cost burden for citizens living in old houses with poor living conditions so that they can live in safe and comfortable environments."
