Reaffirming the Will to Establish a Medical School in Changwon Area Recruitment Units
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam expressed its strong welcome on the 20th regarding the government's announcement of the allocation results of medical school quotas by university for the 2025 academic year, stating that it marks the first step toward medical reform to resolve regional healthcare imbalances.
Until now, the city has consistently asserted the principle that in order to fundamentally resolve medical disparities and healthcare service imbalances between regions, the entire process of selecting, educating, and placing doctors needed in the region must be completed within the region itself.
Although the government’s recent announcement did not include the establishment of new medical schools, attention is focused on President Yoon Seok-yeol’s positive response to the proposal for establishing a medical school in the Jeonnam region during the public discussion held at Jeonnam Provincial Office on the 14th, raising expectations for the establishment of a medical school in the Changwon area.
Mayor Hong Nam-pyo said, “We wholeheartedly welcome the beginning of medical reform aimed at resolving regional healthcare imbalances,” and added, “We will continue to actively participate in the government’s medical reform efforts with the goal of establishing a medical school with recruitment units in the Changwon area.”
