Preventing Construction Accidents Considering Seasonal Vulnerabilities
The Busan Regional Headquarters of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (Head: Gong Heung-du) is launching a 'seasonal customized' 3·1 Patrol inspection project to prevent accidents at small and medium-sized construction sites.
This project involves providing technical support considering the characteristics of construction accidents according to seasonal factors.
According to accident analysis data from the Safety Agency over the past five years, the highest number of fatal accidents occurred in spring, with 39 deaths during frequent roof repair and maintenance work, and in 2023, the number of fatal fall accidents during roofing work sharply increased.
In response, the agency plans to conduct focused inspections targeting roofing and steel frame construction work.
This customized patrol inspection will be carried out mainly in densely populated residential areas such as Gangseo-gu, Sasang-gu, and Gijang-gun, where roof repairs and factory construction and demolition sites have a high occupancy rate.
Head Gong Heung-du stated, “Through this customized patrol inspection, we will conduct proactive responses to seasonal vulnerabilities, focusing on timely identification and technical support for high-risk construction sites,” adding, “It will greatly contribute to accident prevention by vulnerability factors and the creation of safe workplaces.”
