The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency and the Gwangju Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee announced on the 20th that they will conduct a week-long intensive drunk driving crackdown in school zones until the 26th of next month, during the back-to-school children's traffic safety activity period, to prevent drunk driving accidents in school zones.
According to the Gwangju Police Agency, an analysis of drunk driving accidents by time last year showed that 12 drunk driving accidents occurred between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., indicating that drunk driving accidents still occur. In particular, to raise drivers' awareness during the after-school hours when many children commute during the back-to-school season, a comprehensive drunk driving crackdown will be conducted.
Accordingly, the police selected five out of 27 elementary schools under focused management during the back-to-school traffic safety activities and will deploy visible police activities such as motorcycle police, undercover officers, and traffic police every week from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. starting from the 21st, making every effort to achieve zero drunk driving accidents in school zones.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency and the Gwangju Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee will not stop there and plan to conduct ongoing crackdowns to eradicate traffic accidents caused by drunk driving.
A representative of the Gwangju Police Agency said, "We will do our best to ensure children's traffic safety and peaceful daily life on the roads through active police activities such as crackdowns, publicity, and facility improvements to prevent children's traffic accidents in school zones."
