As a result of the government's allocation for the 2025 academic year medical school expansion, the enrollment capacity of Chungbuk National University College of Medicine increased fourfold, marking the largest increase. The so-called 'mini medical schools' will expand their capacity from a minimum of 80 to up to 200 students. Although medical schools in the Seoul area did not see any increase, non-metropolitan medical schools training at the 'Big Five' hospitals, such as Ulsan University (Seoul Asan Medical Center) and Sungkyunkwan University (Samsung Seoul Hospital), will triple their enrollment capacity.

According to the '2025 Academic Year Medical School Student Quota Allocation Results' announced by the Ministry of Education on the 20th, out of the 2,000 additional medical school seats, the largest number?151?was allocated to Chungbuk National University College of Medicine. Consequently, Chungbuk National University College of Medicine, which was a 'mini medical school' with 49 students, will now recruit 200 students. Gyeongsang National University also saw a triple-digit increase from its original 76 students to 124, expanding its total capacity to 200 students.

At a briefing on the same day, Lee Ju-ho, Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education, explained, "To ensure that regional base national university hospitals can properly fulfill their role as regional responsibility medical institutions, we decided to allocate the non-metropolitan increase to maximize utilization so that the total enrollment reaches up to 200 students." In addition to Chungbuk National University and Gyeongsang National University, the enrollment capacities of regional base national university medical schools will increase to ▲Jeju National University 100 students ▲Chonnam National University, Jeonbuk National University, Chungnam National University, Pusan National University, Gyeongbuk National University 200 students ▲Gangwon National University 132 students.

The government allocated additional seats to small-scale medical schools with fewer than 50 students to ensure they have an appropriate scale for efficient operation, increasing their total enrollment to over 100 students. The increases are as follows: ▲Ajou University 40 → 120 ▲Inha University 49 → 120 ▲Gachon University 40 → 130 ▲Catholic Kwandong University 49 → 100 ▲Dongguk University 49 → 120 ▲Daegu Catholic University 40 → 80 ▲CHA University 40 → 80 ▲Dong-A University 49 → 100 ▲Jeju National University 40 → 100 ▲Dankook University 40 → 120 ▲Konkuk University 40 → 100 ▲Konyang University 49 → 100 ▲Eulji University 40 → 100.

In Seoul, no additional medical school seats were allocated due to sufficient medical conditions. However, the enrollment capacities of non-metropolitan medical schools training at the so-called 'Big Five' hospitals located in Seoul, such as Ulsan University (Seoul Asan Medical Center) and Sungkyunkwan University (Samsung Seoul Hospital), will increase threefold from 40 to 120 students.
