The business owners mutually pledged to play a pivotal role in making Naju Bapsang a food tourism attraction by practicing the three core principles of Naju Bapsang: ‘Health, Safety, and Consideration.’
The pledge included practical items such as ‘Prioritizing the use of local ingredients (local food),’ ‘Certification of the voluntary domestic kimchi labeling system,’ ‘Providing dishes for sharing food,’ ‘Hygiene management including spoons and aprons,’ ‘Disposal of leftover food,’ ‘Use of standing tables,’ ‘Clean kitchen and restroom culture,’ and ‘Kindness of staff.’
Naju Bapsang is a campaign project of the 8th local government administration aimed at promoting food tourism that embodies the unique taste and style of Naju and revitalizing the local commercial economy. The plan is to designate a total of 100 establishments by 2026.
Last year, 21 restaurants in the area were selected, and this year 15 more, making a total of 36 designated and operating establishments.
Designations are made through a comprehensive evaluation of various factors such as taste, hygiene, service, and price, following a first screening, second on-site and consumer evaluation, and third committee review.
Designated Naju Bapsang establishments receive benefits such as attachment of a designation plaque, support for food culture improvement supplies, official promotion on Naju City’s SNS, and eligibility to apply for subsidy projects for designated establishments.
Selected establishments can be confirmed on the city hall website’s public notice section (2024 Naju Bapsang Designated Establishments Selection Announcement).
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “I hope you will take the lead in spreading an advanced dining culture through practicing health, safety, and consideration, and making Naju a place where food tourists want to return.” He added, “We will do our best to operate and support the designation of 100 Naju Bapsang establishments to serve as a catalyst for the era of 5 million Naju tourists.”
