Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that, following last year, it will hold the ‘My Yuzu Tree’ distribution event again this year, distributing 200 yuzu trees to raise external awareness as a major yuzu production area.
The ‘My Yuzu Tree’ distribution event is a special program fostering urban-rural empathy, where participants receive yuzu trees cultivated in Goheung-gun, give their own special name to the yuzu tree during the flowering season, and have the opportunity to harvest the yuzu themselves in November and make tea. Participants are also provided with a portion of the harvested yuzu (guaranteed 10 kg of yuzu per tree).
In addition, Goheung-gun plans to revitalize local tourism by offering urban residents special memories unique to Goheung under the theme ‘Autumn Yuzu Trip in Goheung,’ in connection with the ‘4th Goheung Yuzu Festival’ held in November during the yuzu harvest season.
Anyone can apply for the yuzu tree distribution by accessing the Goheung-gun official website or the Goheung-gun Agricultural Technology Center website and applying by April 30. The distribution cost is 70,000 KRW per yuzu tree, and each person can apply for up to two trees.
A Goheung-gun official stated, “Through the ‘My Yuzu Tree’ distribution event, we will do our best to widely promote yuzu, Goheung’s representative specialty, to urban residents to increase interest and to help increase farmers’ income.”
