Gangdong-gu to Operate Disaster Safety Comprehensive Situation Room 24 Hours a Day

Seoul Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Soo-hee) has started operating the ‘Disaster Safety Comprehensive Situation Room’ 24 hours a day from this month.

The district determined that a command center capable of systematic response was necessary due to the recent increase in unpredictable natural disasters and frequent safety accidents. Since last year, it has been promoting the establishment of the Disaster Safety Comprehensive Situation Room, and from the 1st of this month, it announced that it has deployed a total of 24 staff members, including 3 dedicated personnel, to establish a 24-hour continuous operation system.

The district plans to strengthen initial response by monitoring disaster situations around the clock without gaps, quickly grasping the on-site situation when a disaster occurs, and immediately relaying information to related departments and agencies. Additionally, if necessary, it will send emergency disaster messages and mobilize response personnel to prevent the spread of damage and promptly manage the incident.

The Gangdong-gu Disaster Safety Comprehensive Situation Room is equipped with basic disaster situation transmission and management functions such as seasonal disaster CCTV monitoring systems for floods and heavy snow, the National Disaster Management System (NDMS), the Disaster Safety Communication Network (PS-LTE), and video conferencing systems.

In particular, the system functions have been enhanced to enable immediate situation analysis and response through ‘Smart Seoul’ (integrated platform), which allows fire and police departments to monitor CCTV screens at dispatch locations.

Furthermore, through the ‘Real-time Disaster and Accident Occurrence Map Service’ independently developed by Gangdong-gu, disaster accidents reported by resident safety organizations are received and the progress is disclosed to residents, thereby establishing a private-led autonomous safety management foundation.

District Mayor Lee Soo-hee stated, “We will prioritize the safety of residents and strengthen a seamless cooperation system with related agencies to make Gangdong safe 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and will make every effort to achieve this.”
