Signing Agreement to Support Families in Crisis with 'Metro Nanum and Donghaeng Fund' and Receiving 'ESG Practice Company' Certification
Donating 500 Blood Donation Certificates Collected through 'Employee Blood Donation Campaign' to Participate in Life Sharing
President Baekho: "We Will Grow into a Company That Practices Sharing with Neighbors in Need and Supports Healthy Development of the Local Community"
Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) and the Korean Red Cross (Chairman Kim Cheolsu) announced that on the morning of the 18th, they held a regular sponsorship agreement ceremony for the ‘Metro Sharing and Together Fund’ and a blood donation certificate donation event at the Korean Red Cross Seoul Office in Myeongdong, Jung-gu, to support low-income families in crisis on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Seoul subway.
The corporation decided to create the ‘Metro Sharing and Together Fund’ through the voluntary participation of its executives and employees and to donate a fixed amount to the Red Cross every month. The donation will be used for the ‘Red Cross Hope Windmill Emergency Support Program,’ which provides living, housing, and medical expenses to socially vulnerable people who need urgent support due to sudden crises.
Through this sponsorship, the corporation participated in the ESG practice company campaign, which addresses economic, social, and environmental issues as a public enterprise.
In addition, 500 blood donation certificates collected through the ‘Employee Blood Donation Campaign’ were donated. Since 2009, the corporation has been operating the ‘Blood Donation Certificate Bank’ system, which manages blood donation certificates donated by employees who participated in blood donation like a bank and donates them to places in urgent need, thereby participating in the practice of sharing life.
Since signing the first social contribution agreement in 2009, the two organizations have steadily cooperated for social contributions such as bread sharing and blood donation life sharing. In 2023, they once again signed a ‘Sustainable Social Contribution Agreement’ to expand social contribution projects.
Last year, they contributed 5 million won in sponsorship funds for the ‘Hope Pink Box’ to support health and hygiene products for female adolescents from low-income families, and contributed to spreading a culture of sharing through campaigns donating space within subway stations and posting banners for Red Cross humanitarian activities.
This year, they plan to carry out various social contribution programs involving many executives and employees, including bread sharing volunteer activities in the first half of the year and Hope Pink Box production volunteer activities in the second half.
Kim Cheolsu, Chairman of the Korean Red Cross, said, “I thank all the executives and employees of Seoul Metro who voluntarily decided to support families in crisis with funds collected every month.” He added, “The Korean Red Cross will actively work with Seoul Metro to make humanitarian activities in our society more active.”
Baek Ho, President of Seoul Metro, said, “It is very meaningful to carry out social contribution activities with the Korean Red Cross on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Seoul subway this year.” He added, “As a public enterprise, we will grow into a company that fulfills social responsibility by having all employees participate together, practicing sharing with neighbors in need, and helping the healthy development of the local community.”
