At the NVIDIA ‘GTC 2024’ exhibition hall visited on the 19th (local time), more than 250 diverse booths were set up, vividly demonstrating the effects of artificial intelligence (AI). GTC is an AI developer conference held annually by NVIDIA, which opened the day before at the convention center in San Jose, California.
The exhibition hall on the second floor of the convention center was crowded with visitors eager to explore each booth. Companies from various fields, including AI and software firms, semiconductor companies, and automakers, participated and presented a wide range of exhibits.
Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron prominently displayed their latest 5th generation HBM products, HBM3E, at the forefront of their booths. When visitors viewed the products, staff members immediately approached to explain, showing an active attitude. Visitors mainly focused on the HBM3E products.
Samsung Electronics set up a large-scale booth in the center of the exhibition hall and attracted visitors by unveiling the 12-stack HBM3E product for the first time. A Samsung Electronics representative said, "Since this is the first time we are presenting the 12-stack product to the public, we are definitely receiving many questions," adding, "Most questions are about the number of stacks and detailed specifications."
SK Hynix, which set up its booth facing Micron, also emphasized the HBM3E exhibition. SK Hynix announced at the opening of the NVIDIA developer conference that it is the world’s first to deliver 8-stack HBM3E, placing the ‘NVIDIA’ logo next to the product to catch attention.
Micron also prominently showcased its 8-stack HBM3E product. When it was revealed that the visitor was a Korean journalist, the staff’s expressions immediately stiffened. A Micron representative at the site explained, "The 8-stack HBM3E is currently in mass production, and the 12-stack product is undergoing sample testing."
Various robots also appeared at the exhibition. NVIDIA placed its humanoid robot ‘Apollo,’ equipped with its robot operating system and dedicated chipset, in the middle of the exhibition hall. They also introduced a yellow four-legged robot resembling a dog.
At the Microsoft (MS) exhibition hall, visitors could also see an AI barista robot presented by the startup ‘Atly,’ which collaborates with MS. Visitors watched the robot with amazement as it prepared coffee precisely and quickly.
SK Hynix unveiled its new PC solid-state drive (SSD) product ‘PCB01’ for the first time at the exhibition. PCB01 can continuously read data at 14 gigabytes (GB) per second and write data continuously at 12 GB per second. Compared to the previous generation, the speed has doubled. It can load large language models (LLM) required for AI training and inference within one second.
