March-April District and County Self-Organized Tree Planting Events
On the 20th at 10:30 AM, Ulsan City held the '79th Arbor Day Tree Planting Event' at Ulsan Grand Park.
This event was organized to restore the ecological functions of forests and to raise awareness of the importance of forests for carbon neutrality.
About 370 participants, including Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, corporations, private organizations, companies, citizens, and public officials, planted 2,500 cypress trees over a total area of 20,000㎡.
Cypress is a coniferous tree species known for producing a large amount of phytoncide, a natural antibacterial substance, and has excellent fine dust reduction capabilities. Over the past 10 years, 15,000 cypress trees have been planted across 120,000㎡ within Ulsan Grand Park.
An official from Ulsan City stated, "Forests provide various public benefits such as improving air quality by reducing fine dust, responding to climate change, and offering forest recreational spaces. We will take good care of these precious trees to create a pleasant natural environment."
Each district and county in Ulsan will also independently conduct tree planting events from March to April. Jung-gu will plant 1,000 cypress trees around Iphwasan on April 12, Nam-gu will plant 1,500 cypress trees around Duwang-dong on March 20, Dong-gu will plant 800 Japanese cornelian cherry trees around Mipo-gujang on March 26, Buk-gu will plant 500 camellia trees around Yeonam-dong on March 28, and Ulju-gun will plant 800 wild cherry trees in the forest area around Songdae-ri, Eonyang-eup on March 29.
