[One Day Walk] Crossing Homyeongsan Along the Lush Forest Trail... Gapyeong Course 22

11.4km from Sangcheon Station to Cheongpyeong Station Entrance

Gyeonggi Dullegil Course 22 is an 11.4 km trail that runs from Sangcheon Station to the entrance of Cheongpyeong Station. It is a challenging section that takes about 5 hours to complete.

The trail starts at Sangcheon Station. Walking along the village road, you will reach the foothills of Homyeongsan. Homyeongsan is covered with dense forest. The path is gentle, making it ideal for hiking while breathing in the fresh air. Occasionally, there are uphill sections, but none are very difficult.

There is a legend behind the name Homyeongsan. Long ago, a monk seeking spiritual practice came across a puppy while traveling through the mountains. Believing the loyal puppy was a sign of fate, the monk lived and practiced Buddhism with it. Strangely, as the puppy grew, it took the form of a tiger. Sometimes it would climb the back mountain and roar "Eohheung." Since then, people called that back mountain "the mountain where the tiger cries," hence the name Homyeongsan.

At the end of the forest trail, you will find a lake at the summit. This is Homyeong Lake, an artificial lake created for Korea’s first pumped-storage power plant. The lake at the summit creates a spectacular view reminiscent of Baekdusan’s Heaven Lake. It is ranked as the second scenic spot among the eight scenic views of Gapyeong. The view of Cheongpyeong lakeside from the octagonal pavilion is also beautiful.

Walking around the lakeshore, you reach the ridge of Homyeongsan. At 632 meters, Homyeongsan offers a trekking course that is not rugged. It is popular among people who want to enjoy a light mountain hike. Occasionally, you encounter rocky paths, but the joy of the forest trail is greater.

Descending a steep downhill slope, you reach Jojongcheon Stream. This valley is formed by water flowing down from Unaksan and Myeongjisan mountains, merging and flowing southward into the Bukhangang River at Cheongpyeong Dam. The water in this valley is clear, attracting many summer vacationers.

There is a guitar-shaped bridge over Jojongcheon called Homyeonggyo Bridge. It was installed in 2018 for hikers who previously crossed by stepping stones. The bridge is 93 meters long and 2 meters wide. The guitar shape symbolizes Gapyeong, a city known for music. Crossing this bridge leads to Cheongpyeong Station.
