Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 12th that it has selected three additional 'Gangdong Net-Zero Energy Cafes' to raise awareness and provide education on carbon neutrality, and signed a business agreement.

'Net-Zero' is a global energy campaign aiming to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to '0' by 2050. Following its selection in 2022 for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's regional energy center pilot project, Gangdong-gu has been operating 'Gangdong Net-Zero Energy Cafes' in partnership with local cafes.

In addition to the two existing locations, ▲'Book Cafe Library Dadokdadok Branch 1' (Seongnae-dong) and ▲'The Masil Cheonho Branch' (Cheonho-dong), three more cafes were added through a public contest in January: ▲'Farm Cafe' (Sangil-dong), ▲'Song for the Earth' (Dunchon-dong), and ▲'Kalon' (Seongnae-dong).

'Farm Cafe,' located within the Gangdong Pamix Center, offers various climate and environmental education infrastructures for users and nearby residents. 'Song for the Earth,' a zero-waste shop and vegan bakery cafe, provides opportunities to purchase and experience eco-friendly products. The complex cultural facility 'Kalon' features a 'barrier-free' art room where people with and without disabilities, regardless of age or gender, can experience art education.

At the 'Gangdong Net-Zero Energy Cafes,' various experiential environmental education programs are offered, including renewable energy experiences such as mini solar-powered cars and jump rope generators, eco-friendly mushroom cultivation using coffee grounds, and soap making. Starting in May, any Gangdong-gu resident can participate, and those interested can inquire by calling the Climate and Environment Division of Gangdong-gu Office.

Through this agreement, the 'Gangdong Net-Zero Energy Cafes' will establish themselves as community-participation carbon neutrality experiential education spaces, working closely with the district to plan and operate programs, promote awareness of sustainable climate crisis and regional energy transition, and contribute to creating a carbon-neutral city.

Hwang Chang-seon, head of the Climate and Environment Division, stated, "Energy and climate issues are challenges that we all must approach together," and added, "We hope the Gangdong Net-Zero Energy Cafes will be used as places to spread awareness of the climate crisis and practice carbon neutrality in daily life."
