On the 19th (local time), overseas media including The Guardian cited multiple anonymous sources to report this. Accordingly, the first overseas trip since the start of his fifth term is expected to be to China. Although the exact timing is difficult to predict, an anonymous source stated, "It will take place in the latter half of May." President Putin's inauguration ceremony is scheduled for May 7.
The media explained, "President Xi visited Russia last March as his first overseas trip after securing a third term and following the pandemic (global outbreak)," adding, "President Putin and President Xi have often displayed a close personal friendship."
At the time of his successful re-election, President Putin told reporters, "Russia and China share similar global outlooks and, partly due to a good personal friendship, enjoy a resilient relationship," emphasizing, "The relationship between Moscow and Beijing will further develop over the coming years."
Meanwhile, the Kremlin and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs are reported to have declined to comment on this matter.
The Guardian added, "China and Russia are members of BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), and there is an intention to unite them to challenge the United States' dominance of the global economy."
