Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will fully support 2.2 billion KRW in project funds to schools and the education support office within the district in 2024 to realize universal education welfare without discrimination and to nurture future talents.
This year, Boseong-gun plans to provide a total of approximately 2.22 billion KRW in educational expenses to 34 elementary, middle, and high schools in the district and the Boseong Education Support Office, including △ 8 projects for realizing education welfare (1.19 billion KRW), △ 4 projects supporting special talents and aptitudes (290 million KRW), and △ 5 projects supporting academic achievement improvement (740 million KRW).
Additionally, the Boseong-gun Scholarship Foundation will invest 600 million KRW in 12 projects such as talent development scholarships and support for specialized high school talents to promote various educational support projects for students.
The effects of investment in the education sector have also been remarkable. As a result of expanding the 2023 prestigious high school development support project to improve educational conditions in rural fishing villages and reduce parents' private education expenses, the admission rate to top 30 universities and excellent departments in university evaluations rose from 7.8% in 2020 to 28.1% in 2024.
▲ Realizing Warm and Equal Education Welfare
To realize warm and equal education welfare, free meal support is provided to elementary and middle schools in the district to promote healthy physical and mental development of growing students and relieve the burden of meal costs. Support for new high school students’ uniform purchase costs is provided to realize universal education welfare.
Taxi fares are supported for elementary and middle school students in the district who have difficulty commuting due to transportation inconvenience, ensuring the mobility rights of commuting students. After-school elementary care classrooms are supported to alleviate parents' childcare burdens and provide improved care programs, creating an environment where parents can raise their children with peace of mind.
Investment for nurturing creative talents aims to bridge the educational gap between urban and rural areas, reduce private education expenses, operate after-school programs tailored to student characteristics, and support weekend community-linked after-school programs to foster academic growth through the development of special talents and aptitudes.
▲ Early Discovery of Gifted Students and Nurturing Global Creative Talents
To nurture students with outstanding talents in various fields early on into global talents with leadership, support is provided for the operation of the Boseong Gifted Education Center and youth career experience activities to enhance self-directed management skills.
As a measure to expand the educational foundation in rural areas that are less developed compared to large cities, English experience classrooms, foreign language experience centers, and native-speaking assistant teachers are supported to create an English-friendly educational environment.
To nurture creative convergence talents who will lead the region, a talent development foundation project supports programs reflecting the characteristics of six high schools in the district, and the academic achievement improvement project, which provides differentiated support based on prestigious university admission rates to three humanities high schools in the district, will be strengthened to lay the foundation for fostering prestigious high schools by reflecting the changing admissions environment and educational directions.
▲ Scholarship Projects Serving as a Strong Support for Students
The Boseong-gun Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships totaling 430 million KRW to about 450 future talents of Boseong-gun in the first and second halves of the year to support their dreams. To encourage residents' interest and participation in the scholarship fund, the foundation will hold the ‘4th Essay Contest’ and publish a scholarship newsletter to exchange scholarship information.
In addition, 170 million KRW is being supported for seven projects including specialized high school talent support, educational development policy scholarships, and special designated scholarships to actively discover and nurture local talents.
Kim Cheol-woo, the governor of Boseong-gun, said, “We will spare no support so that students, the leaders of future generations, can nurture and realize their dreams.” He added, “We will continue to listen to the voices of schools, students, and parents and do our best to create hopeful Boseong education.”
