'Group Sexual Assault' Jung Joon-young Released After Serving 5-Year Sentence... Silent Wearing Mask and Hat

Released After Serving 5-Year Sentence at Mokpo Prison

Singer Jung Joon-young (35), who served a prison sentence for gang rape charges, has been released after completing his term.

News1 reported that Jung Joon-young was released from Mokpo Prison in Jeollanam-do at around 5:05 a.m. on the 19th after finishing his sentence. He came out wearing a mask and a hat pulled down. He faced the press but left the scene without saying anything special.

Jung Joon-young was indicted and detained on charges of gang rape of intoxicated women in places such as Hongcheon, Gangwon Province in January 2016 and Daegu in March 2016, along with singer Choi Jong-hoon and others including Heo, Kwon, and Kim, members of the so-called 'Jung Joon-young group chat.' He was also charged with repeatedly sharing inappropriate videos of women he filmed without consent in group chat rooms over several months starting from late 2015 (violation of the Sexual Violence Punishment Act).

In the first trial sentencing held in November 2019, Jung Joon-young was sentenced to six years in prison, ordered to complete 80 hours of sexual violence treatment programs, and banned from employment for five years in child and youth-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled. However, his sentence was reduced by one year on appeal.

Meanwhile, Jung Joon-young debuted in the music industry through Mnet's 'Superstar K4' in 2012. He later appeared on various entertainment programs such as KBS2's '1 Night 2 Days' Season 3 but was expelled due to the sexual assault case.

At that time, through a press release, he stated, "Regarding the matters being discussed about me, I admit all my crimes. I filmed women without their consent and distributed the videos in SNS chat rooms, and I acted without a great sense of guilt while doing so." He added, "It was an immoral act deserving of public condemnation as a public figure, and it was a very reckless action."
