Gyeonggi Province will start a project in April to measure indoor air quality for free and provide management guidance at multi-use facilities below the legal size, such as daycare centers and senior citizen centers within the province.
On the 19th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it has allocated a total of 600 million KRW, including 180 million KRW from the provincial budget this year, to measure indoor air quality and support customized indoor air quality consulting for 8,571 facilities used by children and elderly who are vulnerable to respiratory diseases and are densely populated, such as small-scale daycare centers excluded from the legal indoor air quality management obligations.
Large-scale multi-use facilities such as shopping malls that meet or exceed the legal size manage indoor air quality through self-measurement and education according to the Indoor Air Quality Control Act, but multi-use facilities below the legal size find voluntary management difficult. In particular, daycare centers and senior citizen centers are used by children and elderly who are sensitive to health for most of the day, making indoor air quality management especially important.
Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province is promoting the ‘Indoor Air Quality Measurement and Consulting Project’ for facilities used by vulnerable groups such as daycare centers and senior citizen centers, and is producing and distributing booklets on indoor air quality management measures to create a pleasant and safe environment.
Park Dae-geun, Director of the Environmental Health and Safety Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Healthy indoor spaces are necessary for all of us, and through this project, we will continue to strive to improve the living spaces of residents to be safe and healthy."
