Anseong 'Seongnam Okcheon' Urban Regeneration Project... 10.8 Billion KRW Invested in 16 Projects

The foundation has been laid for the promotion of the urban regeneration project in Seongnam and Okcheon districts of Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do.


Gyeonggi-do gave final approval on the 18th for the ‘Seongnam and Okcheon District Urban Regeneration Activation Plan (draft)’ submitted by Anseong-si, following a review by the provincial Urban Regeneration Committee.


The Urban Regeneration Activation Plan is an implementation plan for promoting urban regeneration projects. According to the Special Act on the Promotion and Support of Urban Regeneration, the city or county, which holds the authority to establish strategic plans, drafts the plan, and Gyeonggi-do approves it.


With this plan approval, Anseong-si will be able to actively participate in government urban regeneration projects and the Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Contest projects to secure project funds and promote urban regeneration projects.

According to the contents of the Urban Regeneration Activation Plan, a total of 16 projects will be carried out targeting the old downtown area of approximately 152,728㎡ in Seongnam-dong and Okcheon-dong, Anseong-si. These projects include improving the performance of aging houses, village safety and health guardians, creating village history theme streets, constructing community facilities for residents, and revitalizing local communities. The total project cost is 10.8 billion KRW.


Jung Jong-guk, head of the Gyeonggi-do Urban Regeneration Promotion Team, stated, "We will spare no administrative and financial support to ensure that urban regeneration projects can be promptly promoted through the establishment of city and county urban regeneration plans," adding, "We will concentrate all our capabilities to enhance the vitality of the original downtown area."


Meanwhile, Gyeonggi-do has achieved the result of having the highest number nationwide with 66 sites selected in government urban regeneration contest projects by cooperating with cities, counties, and urban regeneration support centers to revitalize declining original downtown areas within the province until last year. In addition, with 13 Gyeonggi-do type urban regeneration projects, urban regeneration projects are being promoted in 79 locations.
