On the 18th, Bang Jae-seung, the head of the Emergency Response Committee, stated that after holding general meetings at Seoul National University Yeongeon Campus, Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, and Boramae Hospital, the committee made this decision. A total of 380 professors from Seoul National University College of Medicine attended the meeting, and 75% (283 members) agreed to submit their resignation letters collectively.
Chairman Bang said, "Professors from Seoul National University and Seoul National University Hospital will submit their resignation letters to the Emergency Response Committee starting tomorrow, and the committee has agreed to compile these letters and submit them collectively on the 25th."
During the general meeting, there was discussion about submitting resignation letters in stages versus collectively, but it is reported that the professors reached a consensus in favor of collective submission.
Chairman Bang stated, "Even if the resignation letters are submitted, we intend to do our best to continue medical treatment until the acceptance process is completed," and added, "We have agreed to do our utmost in treating emergency and critical patients according to the physical limitations of the professors."
Regarding the government's stance that it will not accept the resignation letters, he said, "The crucial control lies with the government, and there is nothing we can do about it," emphasizing, "The government bears significant responsibility for the current situation, and the only way to resolve this crisis in the short term is through the extreme measure of submitting resignation letters."
