Illegal Immigrant Attempt Suspect Under Investigation Alongside Co-conspirators in 500 Million Won Jeonse Fraud Case
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oh-seong) urgently arrested three suspects after tracking a vessel attempting illegal departure in the northeastern waters of Heuksando, Sinan County on the 15th.
According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 18th, at around 8:56 PM on the 15th, after receiving a request from the Navy's 3rd Fleet to identify an unidentified vessel D (5.6 tons, unregistered), patrol ships were dispatched urgently. Together with the Navy, they pursued vessel D for an hour as it fled and disobeyed orders to stop, eventually apprehending it 2.5 nautical miles northeast of Heuksando.
Mokpo Maritime Police revealed that Mr. A (in his 30s), who attempted illegal departure, was already under investigation by another agency for fraud related to a charter scam worth approximately 500 million KRW. Mr. B (in his 60s, crew member), who arranged the illegal departure, received an advance payment of 5 million KRW and used Mr. C’s (in his 40s, captain) vessel to depart from Jindo around 7 PM on the 15th, intending to transfer Mr. A to a Chinese vessel in nearby international waters.
This operation is regarded as an exemplary case of maintaining flawless maritime security based on the close cooperation system between the military and police.
