Asphalt concrete manufacturer SG announced on the 18th that it has established a local subsidiary, SG Ukraine, in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
SG explained that it has completed the establishment procedures for its local subsidiary ‘SG Ukraine’ (CEO Andriy Nazarenko) and is embarking on full-scale road reconstruction projects.
SG had resolved in December last year to establish a new local corporation in Ukraine. SG’s investment in the newly established subsidiary amounts to $7 million, equivalent to 9.07 billion KRW.
SG Ukraine plans to manufacture eco-friendly Eco Steel Asphalt Concrete by receiving a total of 42 million tons of steel slag free of charge over 10 years from Metinvest Group, Ukraine’s largest steel company.
Prior to this, the company signed asphalt concrete supply contracts worth 17.8 billion KRW (12.5 million euros) each with Ukraine’s DS Prom Group LLC and LLC Eurobud Plus.
Based on its asphalt concrete manufacturing technology using slag, SG succeeded in developing the eco-friendly ‘Eco Steel Asphalt Concrete’ product. Eco Steel Asphalt Concrete uses slag, a waste product from steelmaking and steel refining processes, instead of natural aggregates traditionally used in asphalt concrete manufacturing. This results in benefits such as forest conservation and reduced industrial byproduct disposal costs. Additionally, it has more than twice the strength of conventional asphalt concrete, reducing pothole occurrence rates on roads, and also provides effects of reducing fine dust and noise.
SG holds outstanding technology domestically, having obtained construction new technology certification from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2022 for this technology. In July last year, it registered with the Korea Expressway Corporation’s ‘DoGong Technology Market’ and completed official procurement item registration with the Public Procurement Service in October, gaining recognition for excellent quality in the market. Eco Steel Asphalt Concrete has been applied to the Anseong-Yongin section of the Seoul-Sejong Expressway and the bus-only lanes around Seoul Sinchon Station.
