KISTI Collaborates with 和 Institute of Science and Technology Studies on Science and Technology Indicator Development

The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (President Kim Jae-su, hereinafter KISTI) announced on the 18th that it has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to mutually cooperate with The Centre for Science and Technology Studies, Leiden University (hereinafter CWTS) in the Netherlands, to develop transparent and reproducible science and technology indicators using open academic data.

CWTS in the Netherlands is a world-leading research institute in the field of academic data analysis, possessing core technologies such as the Leiden clustering algorithm and academic information visualization software (VOSviewer). It is known for managing the CWTS Leiden Ranking, a global university ranking based on paper-level analysis.

Through this agreement, both institutions will ▲ develop reproducible and diverse science and technology indicators using open data and transparently disclose analysis results and processes, ▲ cooperate to enhance the visibility of local knowledge from various countries in global academic communication, and ▲ jointly collect information necessary to improve quantitative evaluation systems and establish a cooperative framework for research evaluation system improvement.

Building on this agreement, KISTI will participate in the UNESCO Chair Programmes, hosted by CWTS under the theme of "Global Diversity and Inclusion in Science," to monitor diversity and inclusion in science and mutually cooperate in developing pluralistic perspectives in global academic communication.

President Kim Jae-su stated, “Through mid- to long-term cooperation between KISTI and CWTS, we expect to establish world-class analytical methodologies to support data-driven R&D decision-making and to lay the groundwork for international cooperation aimed at developing and utilizing diverse science and technology indicators to improve quantitative evaluation systems in the global science and technology community.”
