The petitioners stated, “The location where the livestock facility approval was applied for is a valley that merges with a stream flowing in front of the village,” adding, “If livestock are raised there, the village will inevitably be polluted by livestock manure, and it is expected to have adverse effects on fruit farming as well.”

The Urban Environment Committee requested the relevant departments of Jinju City to derive a smooth resolution through communication and stated that they will conduct additional reviews of the complaints after fully understanding the situation.

Subsequently, the Urban Environment Committee visited the Jinseong-myeon water supply modernization project site, which involves maintenance of 52.3 km of aged water pipelines; the Jinyangho circular bicycle road project site, which recently announced a redesign of the city’s plan due to overlap with a wildlife protection area; and the Jiphyeon-Jangheung natural disaster risk zone maintenance project site, scheduled to be completed by next year.

The Urban Environment Committee urged the city to carefully proceed with projects considering the improvement of local water supply retention rates, clean and stable tap water supply, residents’ convenience and safety, and the environment.

Kang Jin-cheol, Chair of the Urban Environment Committee, said, “Jinju City must always meticulously review the progress to ensure there are no shortcomings, considering residents’ convenience, safety, and the environment,” and added, “From the project planning and design stages to post-completion performance analysis, please be careful not to waste citizens’ taxes.”
