Jeonju City Holds Meeting on 'Revitalizing Traditional Markets' Through Distribution Digitalization

On the 18th, Mayor Woo Beom-gi Listened to On-site Difficulties Including Policy Introductions

Woo Beom-gi, the mayor of Jeonju, listened to the difficulties faced by market merchants in order to revitalize the traditional markets, which are the foundation of the local economy.

According to Jeonju City on the 18th, Mayor Woo held a communication and coexistence meeting for the revitalization of traditional markets with Shim Seong-wook, president of the Jeonju Merchants Association, and the heads of traditional market and shopping district merchant associations in Jeonju at the mayor’s office.

The meeting aimed to create an atmosphere of coexistence and cooperation among large marts, small and medium distribution companies, and Jeonju’s traditional markets and shopping districts, in response to the recent structural changes in the distribution environment and the significant changes in traditional markets.

They listened to the difficulties of the traditional market merchant associations and sought customized support measures together. They agreed to work with merchants to strengthen online response capabilities so that Jeonju’s traditional markets can leap forward as competitive economic markets.

The city introduced the specialized cultivation project, a support program for the "digitalization of traditional markets." At the meeting, they listened to merchants’ suggestions to promote mutual development of the local economy and revitalization of traditional markets.

They also explained support projects for facility and environment improvements, such as fire alarm facilities and old wiring maintenance projects, to prevent fire accidents and safety accidents caused by aging facilities in traditional markets vulnerable to fire.

Mayor Woo Beom-gi of Jeonju said, "Traditional market merchants are the driving force of the local economy and a key pillar for a strong economic Jeonju," adding, "Communication and coexistence, where we think and work together, are necessary for the revitalization of traditional markets."

He continued, "We will not spare support for traditional markets so that each traditional market can develop its own specialized programs to attract customers and further revitalize the local economy."
